Frailty Quantified by the "Valencia Score" as a Potential Predictor of Lifespan in Mice.

The development of frailty scores suitable for mice and which resemble those used in the clinical scenario is of great importance to understand human frailty. The aim of the study was to determine an individual frailty score for each mouse at different ages and analyze the association between the frailty score and its lifespan. For this purpose, the "Valencia Score" for frailty was used. Thus, a longitudinal study in mice was performed analyzing weight loss, running time and speed, grip strength and motor coordination at the late-adult, mature and old ages (40, 56 and 80 weeks old, respectively). Abstract The relatively low activity at lower temperatures and high cost of SSZ-13 zeolite from organotemplate synthesis are two of major problems of presently commercialized Cu-SSZ-13 catalysts for NH3-SCR reaction. Cu-exchanged Al-rich SSZ-13 catalysts with Si/Al = 4 from organotemplate-free synthesis have been prepared, and show superior NH3-SCR performance with NO conversions above 85% at wide-temperature window ranging from 150 to 650 °C. Electrophysiological evidence for circadian rhythmicity in a mammalian pineal organ

Long-term electrophysiological recordings from the guinea-pig pineal organ show that three types of intrinsic cells can be distinguished: (i) Cells showing constant firing rates over periods of up to 24 hours. (ii) Cells which are highly active during the day and show a low firing rate during the night. (iii) Cells which exhibit low activity during the day and enhanced activity during the night; these cells can be strongly inhibited by 1 min of light given during the night. Material screening and selection for XENON100

Results of the extensive radioactivity screening campaign to identify materials for the construction of XENON100 are reported. This Dark Matter search experiment is operated underground at Laboratori Nazionali del Gran Sasso (LNGS), Italy. Several ultra sensitive High Purity Germanium detectors (HPGe) have been used for gamma ray spectrometry. Mass spectrometry has been applied for a few low mass plastic samples. Detailed tables with the radioactive contaminations of all screened samples are presented, together with the implications for XENON100.

Dioxidomolybdenum(VI) and -tungsten(VI) complexes with tripodal amino bisphenolate ligands as epoxidation and oxo-transfer catalysts

The molybdenum(VI) and tungsten(VI) complexes [MO2(L)] (M = Mo (1), W (2), H2L = bis(2-hydroxy-3,5-di-tert-butybenzyl)morpholinylethylamine) were synthesized and the complexes were used to catalyze oxotransfer reactions, viz. sulfoxidation, epoxidation and benzoin oxidation. For comparison, the same reactions were catalyzed using the known complexes [MO2(L′)] (M = Mo (3), W (4), H2L′ = bis(2-hydroxy-3,5-di-tert-butybenzyl)ethanolamine) and [MO2(L″)] (M = Mo (5), W (6), H2L″ = bis(2-hydroxy-3,5-di-tert-butybenzyl)diethyleneglycolamine).
